The Neurofeedback Wellness Center (.Com) is proud to present:
How is Neurofeedback performed?
Our Websites Houston Neurofeedback (.Net) & Woodlands Neurofeedback (.Net) has been serving clients from the Greater Houston, Spring, The Woodlands, Tomball, Kingwood, Humble, & Conroe areas. Today we are introducing clients how is neurofeedback done. As previously mentioned neurofeedback is a drug-free, non-invasive and painless method to train the brain (of children or adults) to function more efficiently. Neurofeedback can be used to enhance memory, focus and attention, improve sleep and relaxation, mood and anxiety, stop worrying, alleviate fatigue, assist with chronic pain, and fibromyalgia, reduce frequency of seizures (in some cases) and help restore cognitive skills and positive emotional feelings.
So, how is Neurofeedback performed?
We begin by attaching sensors to the scalp using a 10/20 system. The sensors are applied using an EEG paste which then allows our software to pick up the clients brain waves in real time. It is painless and does not involve the application of any voltage or applied current to the brain. So it is entirely non-invasive.
A computer processes the client’s brain waves (alpha, theta, beta, delta, & gamma) and extracts information from them. Under the principle of Operant Conditioning, the system will allow clients to watch a movie or to play a video game. Everyone can do it and the specific brain wave frequencies, the settings, and the sensor locations are unique to each individual and depend on the specific training application.
How can Neurofeedback be successful with so many conditions?
The brain is responsible for many functions. Different parts of the brain have specialized tasks. For example, the front of the brain (frontal lobes and prefrontal cortex) is responsible for attention; the back and sides of the brain (the parietal and temporal lobes) put information of different types (sound and sight) together, and the area over the ears (the temporal lobes) is responsible for hearing and memory. Normalizing the brainwaves helps relieve symptoms and maximize brain function.
